I got my students started with reading groups where they chose their books and group membership. They were really excited about reading and actually are looking forward to having reading time.
It gives me hope! It's been really hard to get many of them excited about reading. I've been trying all year. This suddently changed their whole attitude.

My student AV made big progress on the STAR Reading assessment and was very happy.
It made me feel like I've supported my students, even though many of them aren't very positive about academics lately.

I was lucky today because I observed someone damage my property and I was able to get their license plate number. It could just as easily have happened while I was away from my house.
What happened is I saw someone drive back to my house, which is located on a private road that goes back into a forest on a mountainside. There are signs saying it is a private road and a dead end but people are curious (read nosey).
This person turned around and backed into a retaining wall. They hit it at a fairly high speed and caused a loud bang. They probably caused damage to their car. I happened to be watching them and immediately wrote down the plate number, the model of car and color. I also ran out my front door, waving at them to stop but they kept going.
I called the police and they are checking the plate registration and sending a ticket. At that point I will ask the person to pay for the damage and if they don’t, I will take them to Small Claims Court.
I am grateful that I witnessed the incident and that I was able to get the plate number.

I would not have to bear the entire cost of the damage. I am estimating around $300-500.
